Planning permission sought for Thorpe Park's new coaster
Thorpe Park in Surrey has applied to Runnymede Borough Council for full planning permission to erect a new rollercoaster for 2012.
In line with the park's Medium Term Development Plan, German rides manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard has been commissioned to build the new attraction, which - at just under 40m (131ft) tall - is to be located on one of the new development islands adjacent to the park's existing 'Stealth' ride.
The as yet unnamed ride will incorporate coaster cars that are four times the width of normal coaster vehicles, providing a 'fly-through' experience of a crash scene.
Buildings are to be themed with a derelict appearance and full sized replica theming elements scattered across the site will include a crashed aircraft and helicopter and a fire engine.
Mike Vallis, divisional director, said: "We have focussed over the last decade on delivering exciting new thrill rides and attractions, including 'SAW - The Ride'; 'Stealth'; 'Colossus'; and 'Nemesis Inferno'.
"This new development for 2012 will further add to the park's impressive ride portfolio."
