Mobitour - a division of interpretations company Imagemakers - is an audio tour with a difference. It's accessed by visitors using their own mobile phones.
Visitors dial a dedicated number to access the tour and have the choice of listening to the whole tour - either before, during or after their visit - or exploring areas of special interest in more depth.
Content can complement existing interpretation, be updated instantly and incorporate visuals and text.
As well as receiving up to 50 per cent of every tour sold, venues save on the leasing and maintenance costs associated with standard audio tours.
In addition, they receive on-line marketing intelligence and there are options to survey people about their visit and send them text messages about upcoming events.
Visitors can have a no-cost preview before paying a small charge for the tour via SMS, credit card or voucher and their normal mobile rate cost applies, although for many people who have inclusive call packages this could be free.
Other features of the Mobitour system are its availability in 1-3 languages and the ability to include up to 99,999 points of interest, access to additional information, the option of listening again or skipping elements of the tour, and allowing visitors to hang up and then return to the same point in the tour.
