Summit Structures’ tennis centre

Supplier: Summit Structures

More Summit Structures details
Eastbourne Sports Park Tennis Centre, a joint venture between Sussex Downs College and Eastbourne Borough Council in the UK, wanted to provide an affordable indoor sports and recreation facility for community and college students. The primary use of the facility was to house indoor tennis courts, with additional sports being offered to generate revenue from community use.

When choosing a structure, the college took into account size, flexibility, running costs and overall budget. They wanted to offer as much activity space as possible and be able to customise the structure to suit the needs of the sports being offered. Security was also a major consideration, as the building is open to students and the general public every day of the week.

Summit Structures' solution was a translucent white fabric and steel cladding base of the TITAN S4 Low Slope building has allowed the college to minimise the use of artificial lighting, therefore, reducing operational costs, as well as ensuring security 24 hours a day.

The facility houses two indoor basketball courts, two indoor netball courts, three volleyball courts and three tennis courts.

Sussex Downs College sports and recreation manager, David Williams, said: "The reason we chose this structure was because it gave us a great deal of flexibility - we are able to configure the structure in any way we want - regarding size, shape, exterior and interior and it has also allowed us to add additional facilities as and when required."
